A DNA sequence-selective antitumour agent (SP-2001)
is in Phase I clinical trials in the USA
and UK, and other DNA-interactive agents and prodrugs are in
pre-clinical development. In addition, antibacterials, antivirals
and antiparasitics are attractive targets for this DNA sequence
technology. Functional biology studies will inevitably reveal
thousands of novel therapeutic gene targets over the coming
decades.
